The Zamfara State Initiated Sardauna Veterans Unity Football Cup Competition (SVUFCC) has announced the conclusion of arrangements to commence its second edition of the competition in Gusau, the state capital 24th of October this year.
According to the statement by the SVUFCC Public Relations Officer (PRO), Engineer Shehu Madawaki, six contending states comprising Kaduna, Kano, Plateau, Kogi, Sokoto and Zamfara will participate in the tournament to keep the immortalized name of the Premier Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello sustained.
The statement further described the withdrawal of Katsina state out of the scheduled competition as announced recently by the sports officials of the state, as not the cause of backwardness of the
development but a genuine excuse over some formidable problems beyond control.
“Many more states especially from the north were preparing to announce their memberships of the competition during next tournament as the event would serve dual purpose in promoting sporting activities among the veteran players and keep the Sardauna’s hard earned reputation immortalised” said the statement.
It further stated that, Zamfara stands the position of current defending champion the following its victory over opponents during the 2013 competition held in Kaduna state, the development which qualified the state to serve as host of this year’s event, therefore, the contending states were expected to arrive Gusau, the state capital on or before the 24th of October this year as the final shots of the
competition will subsequently kick on the 26th day of same month.
