The Zamfara state government yesterday said it has spent over N70 billion for the constructions of roads across the 14 local government areas of the state within the last three years.
The state Commissioner of Works, Alhaji Ahmad Sharu Anka, while disclosing this to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, said the state government had utilised the available resources for the construction
of roads and the provision of educational facilities in order to ensure the availability of social needs to the general populace.
Sharu Anka said, huge amount of funds have been spent to have constructed over 1,000 kilometres of roads so as to open rural areas and ensure smooth movement of people and goods towards their targeted destinations for legitimate businesses.
He said, Governor Yari has made it mandatory and priority on roads constructions in rural areas, so as to enable farmers who lived in the rural areas to have accessible transportation and cheaply charges in conveying their goods to urban markets and other activities.
He said the road projects include 21km Fanfo-Yarkofoji-Rini, 128km Anka-Daki Takwas, 106km Gummi-Daki Takwas-Bukuyyum road, 46km Kaurar Namoda-Gidan Jaja road and 24.38km Shinkafi town among others.
The Commissioner further informed that, “Zamfara state is quiet a rural and farming is the pride of the people of the state, therefore, the best approach and priority of any serious leader is to give his attention on matters that have direct bearing to this people, which roads would be on the top list”.
“We must open up remote areas in the state by constructing roads to open the windows of easy access to every nook and crannies of our state.
Farming is our main occupation, the governor has virtually felt that, the best way is to embark on massive roads constructions across the state, so that our people in the rural areas can find it easy to transport their products to township markets and sell it cheaply”.
He said, roads constructed in the state are the best in both quality and stability in the country, due to the commitment of the government and firms that were involved to run the projects.
He said, people have appreciated the commitment of Governor Yari’s project toward boosting the socio-economic activities of the state through ensuring road network that has improved the quality of living conditions of a common man in the state.
