The Zamfara State Police Command has refuted an allegation made by one Zuwaira Aminu Ibrahim of Kaura Namoda local government area aired by Voice of America radio station.
In a statement by the Police Spokesperson of the state Command, SP Shehu Muhammad, the woman accused the Police in Kaura Namoda for releasing a suspect, one Kabiru Nasiru a.k.a KB, Who defiled her 3 year old daughter Maryam Aminu and the case brought to Police station for investigation.
“To set the record straight, case of this magnitude is non bailable offence and beyond the Jurisdiction of the Division to handle, therefore, the suspect has not been released by the Police.
The fact of what happened was that, On 24th March, 2020, One Aminu Ibrahim of Sabuwar Kaura in Kaura Namoda LGA reported to Divisional Police Station Kaura accusing one Kabiru Nasiru of the same address of defiling his three 3 year old daughter Maryam Aminu at a hiding Place inside the area.
“On receiving the report, the Police swung into action by taking the victim to the hospital for medical examination and treatment. All efforts made to arrest the suspect was not successful untill on the 26th March, 2020, when the Police apprehended him and commenced his interrogation”, the statement has explained.
According to the statement, both the suspect and the Complainant had since been transferred to the State CID Gusau for discreet investigation after which the suspect will immediately charge to Court for Prosecution.
“The Commissioner of Police therefore, has received this unfounded allegation with shock, and viewed it as a calculated attempt to tarnish the good image of the Police that has already been acknowledged by members of the public in the state”, the statement added.
The Command further urged members of the public to discountenance the allegation, while a highly esteemed media organization like the VOA should endeavor to balance whatever information that comes to their way.
