A mild drama occurred at King Abdul’azeez International Airport, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, when a pilgrim from Zamfara State gave birth to a baby boy inside a plane, bringing to 3, pilgrims from the state that gave birth in the holy land.
It was gathered that the nursing mother was in company of other pilgrims waiting to depart Saudi Arabia to Nigeria on Monday after completing their hajj rituals when she fell into labour.
According to eyewitness, she delivered the baby before being rushed to a nearby hospital in Jeddah by four of the state medical doctors inside the plane.
“She already boarded the plane waiting to depart to Nigeria on Monday in company of other pilgrims from the state when she fell into labour. The four doctors that were in the plane from the state helped her to deliver a baby boy,” an official who does not want his name mentioned told Peoples Daily.
According to him, he was not authorized to speak but confirmed the incident. “Although I was not present when she gave birth because after they boarded the plane around 2:am on that day on their way home I left them to go and sleep. I only woke up around 5 am to hear that one of our pilgrims delivered a baby inside the plane,” he said.
The official further added that he learnt the mother and the child are in good condition at Jeddah.
It could be recalled that few days ago two Zamfara pilgrims also gave birth in Makkah, with the NAHCON promising to sanction the state for allowing pregnant women to travel to the Holy Land.
NAHCON’s Head of Media, Alhaji Uba Mana said, for the two births, the state will lose 24 seats next year but with this recent incident now, it means the state will lose 38 seats; 14 seats as sanction for each of the babies.
