The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zamfara State chapter yesterday called on political parties warming up for the 2015 general elections to for the sake of peace, unity and prosperity of the state and nation at large, avoid use of innocent youth in thuggery to achieve their desires.
Speaking with Peoples Daily at the state union’s secretariat in Gusau, the state capital, the council chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Muhammad Kanoma, recalled that the level of resorting to thuggery by politicians since 1999 may have inculcated in the teeming youth across the state with militancy which constitutes a setback to the development of the state and the country.
Comrade Kanoma, who attributed the current security situation across the country to the failure of politicians to imbibe real democratic tenets, also challenged registered political parties as well as INEC to put their house in order with a view to delivering quality service to the people.
He urged politicians in the quest to achieve rapid development capable of changing the fortunes of the state and county, to facilitate human development projects and to engage the youth in legitimate businesses, thereby reducing the rate of crime in the society.
