Zamfara Gov’s wife empowers over 16,000 women

No fewer than 16,800 women were empowered through women empowerment programme initiated by the office of the Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Aisha Bello Matawalle.
Hajiya Matawalle made this known in Kaura Namoda local government area during a graduation ceremony of a 3-day ‘train the trainer’ programme of 20 women to learn the makings of face masks and hand sanitizers, been selected from five emirates comprising Shinkafi, Moriki, Zurmi, Birnin Magaji and Kaura Namoda.
She said, the empowerment programme was initiated to alleviate the threatening rate of poverty amongst the teeming women across the state by giving them an assistance of the sum 20,000 naira to each of the selected 1,800 from the 14 local government areas of the state.
“Investigation by experts had it that, women had occupied over 90 percent of poor class in Zamfara state, this may not be unconnected with either killing of husbands by bandits or lost in auto crashes and or by increasing rate of unemployment suffered mostly by the category of men”, Hajiya Aisha has cried.
The Governor’s wife further informed that, the programme was succeeding as number of beneficiaries were actively participating in business activities in the state, “Considerable number of women have fully shown up in producing stocks needed by households across the state”.
“I also initiated a making of face masks and hand sanitizers train the trainer programme, being response to covid-19 upon which 20 women were selected to be trained with a view to train other women at their locals.
“The programme, despite Zamfara is now covid-19 free, was planned to be continuous so that the state would succeed in fighting poverty among women and at the same time to fight covid-19 and other infectious diseases among the good people of the state”, Aisha has added.
