The Former Secretary General of the then Nigeria Football Association, Tijani Yusuf has expressed fear that the Super Eagles who are billed to participate at this year’s world cup in Brazil may not perform well.
Tijani noted that he is not impressed with the preparation level of the team ahead of a very important football competition like the world cup, stressing that the preparation of the team so far is shoddy and lack impetus.
He argued that the funds needed to adequately prepare the team may not be release on time as promised by the ministry of sports, lamenting that it has always been the tradition.
“Of a truth I am afraid of the team performance at the world cup. The fact is that the Nigeria Football Federation may not get their funds on time. That has always been the problem and I am afraid things may not be different this time around,”
The sports lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University,Zaria also berated the Aminu Maigari led board for over blowing the issue with Stephen Keshi stressing that it is only helping to cause distraction in the team.
“These are my fears for the team; Apart from the fund issue which i raised, there is lots of distraction in the team. This whole issue between NFF and Stephen Keshi is not helping the team and I believe that they should learn to handle issues like that without making it a subject in the media.
Never the less, Tijani Yususf expressed confidence that should the funds be made available on time as promised by the minister of sports, and the team fully focused on the task ahead, they have what it takes to do well at the world cup in Brazil.
