As this year’s Christmas season unfolds amid the heightened security challenges in the land, Abuja residents have been urged to be security conscious, as safety of lives and property requires the active support of the citizenry.

Also, they are encouraged to join hands together with the government to tackle the lingering security challenges facing them, as they cannot allow their life to be closed down.

The advice was given by the Special Assistant on security matters to the FCT Minister, Henry Shield Nwazuruahu, at the weekend, when he led the First Abuja Peace Rally, to re-echo the need for residents to identify with peace, which is what the administration stands for.

Stressing the need for the citizens to partner with the government towards ensuring the security of their lives and property, he noted that it won’t work if they (residents) decide to turn their back on government.

According to him, with elections and yuletide periods fast approaching, which are strategic times with heightened security issues, ‘but before then, we need every resident to understand that security is your own responsibility too- government needs you as much as you need government for security of lives and property.’

On the Peace rally, the minister’s Aide explained that it was an initiative from the office of the FCT minister, following the demand by some youth leaders and groups to have a peace rally in the city, in support of the effort of the government and every responsible organisations towards tackling insecurity in the land.

“To confront insecurity, so what we have decided to do as an FCT Administration was to give them the needed backing, because for the FCT every effort made to stand in solidarity with the government, in tackling insecurity is always welcome.

“The first Abuja Peace rally is to tell the world that we are not terrorists, and to appeal to the conscience of fct residents, to join hands together with the government to tackle the lingering security challenges facing us, as they cannot allow there life to be closed down.

“There is nowhere in the world where you have 100 % security without the active participation of the citizens, so we are appealing to the fct residents- lets join hands together, government is not your enemy, rather the enemy are those who have decided to threaten our security.

“If you (residents) see anything that is suspicious, ensure to immediately report it to the FCT Administration or any other relevant authorities, that’s is the best that we (residents) can do

“So, residents should know that the government is opening its doors for their own participation in securing the FCT,” he emphasized.

Peoples Daily reports that the Abuja Peace Rally train, which took off at the popular AYA roundabout in Asokoro District, went round some strategic parts of the FCT, canvassing for the buy-in of the residents into the fight against insurgency in the country.
