Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi state has developed a programme of action designed to ensure that youths and women are properly taken care of and their standard of living upgraded.
Consequently, a committee has been set up to fashion out operational modalities that will squarely address the menace of underdevelopment and poverty among women and youths. This is complimentary to the establishment of Agency for youths and women rehabilitation and development (BACYWORD) backed by the edict of the State
House of Assembly enacted in 2009 with a mandate to implement immediate medium and long-term strategies at providing palliative interventions to address the empowerment needs of our teaming youths and women through self-reliant jobs.
Through this intervention, government, according to Yuguda had engaged about 127,041 youths and women since the inception of the administration in 2007 to date, in various intervention programmes which includes spiderwep security, sanitation duties, educational placement, skills acquisition, entrepreneur development and Micro-industry-waste recycling plant, Bauchi furniture company, Agro-allied among other programmes.
The administration recently initiated a programme on Youth and Gender Upliftment and Development Agenda (You-Guda) in Bauchi state as a catalyst for self-development.
Governor Isa Yuguda at the close of orientation and flag-off of implementation programme in Bauchi on Tuesday, urged the youths to exhibit high sense of responsibility in carrying out their assigned responsibilities.
He recalled that the state government has in the past 6 years empowered over 127, 000 youths and women through various interventions, which included educational placement and entrepreneurship program, among others.
The Governor explained that the deliberate policy actions are geared to positively impact on the lives of the youths in order to change their conditions from that of hopelessness to that of hope and bring attitude change in their minds set.
Sani Mohammed, one of the beneficiaries who spoke with newsmen said, Yuguda is worthy of emulation, when the administration had from inception placed youths and women empowerment top among agendas of government ,believing that they are vulnerable to the current unemployment indices that is said to have given birth to the security challenges in the country, which government seems to have failed to address.
The commissioner for commerce and industry, Bauchi state, Hajiya Amina Katagum had said, government is committed to provide an enabling environment for youths and women since its inception through the introduction of various skill acquisition programmes to stimulate self-reliance among our people as a measure to create wealth with the poverty level.
Katagum charged the beneficiaries of Yuguda’s scheme to avail themselves with the opportunity given to them with a view to be responsible citizens in their respective domains as government will not spare any body found wanting.
