Youth admonished to imbibe value for responsive activism

Youth have been admonished to fostering culture of unity and good governance through responsible civic activism, as a powerful tool for bringing about social change.
This advice was handed down by stakeholders, drawn from the mass media, political, government, civil society (including Youth groups) and faith based organizations in Abuja.
They specifically urged Nigerian youth to like never before ensure to actively participate in solving the myriad of challenges facing them.
They spoke at an interactive youth forum recently organised by an Abuja-based Non-governmental organization, Helpline Foundation for the Needy.
Speaking, Founder and president of Helpline Foundation, Mrs Jumai Ahmadu, pointed out that in order to mitigate increasing mouth violence, it is imperative to invest more in areas that will benefit and Nigerian Youth.
She noted that unemployment is one of the darkest clouds threatening the future of the society, thereby making many youths deviate from the mission of joining hands in peace and nation building.
According to her, governments at all levels can promote programmes targeting self-reliance, in order to encourage young people to start their own businesses for better living.
This, she said will automatically strengthen the nation politically, socially and otherwise.
She however urged youth to take decisive steps to effect positive change in their communities.
“Take advantage of your numerical strength; really yourselves to make a commitment never to be used by anyone for violence.
“The time is now for our youth and those around the world to stand up and act for peaceful co-existence,” Mrs Ahmadu emphasized.
Similarly, Deputy director, Youth development of FCT Social Development Secretariat (SDS), Mrs Hajarat Nayande, reiterated that the importance of youth in nation building cannot be overstated, as they remain the driving force of any society.
She therefore called for more collaboration from organised private firms in nurturing and reorientating the youth.
She equally urged the youth to remain focused and imbibe strategical approach in their quest for a better society.
