Your retirement looms, Kaduna APC replies Hunkuyi

The Kaduna State All Progressives Congress has said that it will not be distracted by the recent comments made by the senator representing Kaduna North, Suleiman Hunkuyi, that he is back to the Peoples Democratic Party to help the party regain power in 2019.
Mr Hunkuyi is among 14 senators who decamped to other parties on July 19.
The senator, while on a visit to the PDP secretariat in Kaduna on July 27, said he decided to join the party in line with “the agreement between the R-APC and the opposition party”.
“We came to tell you that we have formally left the APC and we shall not turn back again. We have moved to the PDP with all our structures to join hands to take back power in Kaduna State from the APC,” Mr Hunkuyi reportedly said.
Reacting, in a statement on Monday signed by Salisu Wusono, the Kaduna APC Assistant Publicity Secretary, the party said the senator was only boasting as “he has no relevance in the state anymore”.
“Hunkuyi boasted in 2003 that he will defeat the incumbent governor. He failed, only to hurry back to the PDP as soon as he was defeated to the surprise of the APP that had given him its governorship ticket,” it said.
Mr Wusono said after his tenure as a local government chairman, Mr Hunkuyi failed in every election until the APC gave him its ticket to contest the senatorial election in 2015.
Mr Hunkuyi was formerly a close ally of Governor Nasir El-Rufai before a conflict ensued between them.
Their altercation led to the Kaduna State building planning agency, KASUPDA demolishing his (Hunkuyi) property after alleging the senator did not pay his ground rent.
The state government has started building a children playground on the land.
According to Mr Wusono, Mr Hunkuyi is “desperate to prove to his new masters that he still has some political utility.”
“But he needs to understand that it is Almighty God and the citizenry, that made President Buhari and Governor El-Rufai victorious, and he rode on their backs to win a Senate seat, something that had eluded him for over a decade because of people’s dislike of his political baggage and ego.
“We wish to counsel Hunkuyi to reflect on why he fell out with former Governor Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, former Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo and a host of other politicians in the PDP.
“He has a constant political trade mark of ingratitude and betrayal, traits that robbed him of any standing in the eyes of the public. He has shamelessly returned to the party from which he has decamped on a few occasions. The people of Kaduna State have documented his mischievous and unprincipled politics. They are poised to retire him from politics.”
PREMIUM TIMES sought to get Mr Hunkuyi’s reaction but several calls put through to his number did not connect.
But a close ally of Mr Hunkuyi, Mohammed Umaru, said the state APC is working on a script by the state governor.
“I want you to know that the state APC is just playing on the state governor’s script. Hunkuyi is not scared, but as you can see they are already jittery.
“Hunkuyi and his supporters have since moved on and I tell you today, they will see what it means not to have a Hunkuyi in their camp after 2019,” Mr Umar said. (PREMIUM TIMES)
