Northern youth groups, under the auspices of Coalition of Northern Youths (CNY), have told former President Olusegun Obasanjo that he can no longer choose leaders for the North.
The coalition said, the former President’s action, as reported by the media, asking President Goodluck Jonathan to replace Vice-President Namadi Sambo with Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa state in the 2015 Presidential race was designed to destabilize the North and create onfusion among its political elites.
A statement issued by the coalition, signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Sama’ila Dallah, said “it was the same Obasanjo that caused the same problem that is bedeviling the north today by forcing late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua on the country when he knew the health condition of the Katsina-born politician”.
According to the statement, “We view the recent campaign of calumny being orchestrated by a section of the political class against the person of the Vice-President Mohammed Namadi Sambo as not only diversionary but an agenda aimed at destabilising the North.
“We want to also say that no matter the sin of Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, he has been able to rally northern politicians who are ready to work with him and has also brought many developmental projects to the North,” the statement read.
