Some hoodlums believed to be political thugs attached to some politicians in Adamawa state have ambushed and robbed many motorists and passengers on commercial tricycles of their belongings.
The criminal incident occurred on Saturday at about 3: pm along Ahmadu Bello way and Gimba road near Famous Yola Club just about 300 metres away from Mahmoud Ribadu square where Governor Umaru Jibrilla made his re-election declaration in Yola weekend.
The political gathering took place in Jimeta,Yola North local government.
Reports had it that as the political programme was going on, the hoodlums in their numbers using tricycles while some were on foot took advantage of the noisy atmosphere to attacked and robbed their victims freely stopping and maiming everyone at sight.
Narrating her ordeal to our reporter, Ummul Tahir, a victim said she was coming back from Jimeta Modern Market on a commercial tricycle through Gimba road heading to Ahmadu Bello Way when the miscreants stopped and ordered that they should come down and surrender their valuables to them.
Tahir said that they forcefully snatched her Samsung Galaxy S.7 Edge phone valued at N185,000 and one other Techno phone valued at N5,000,00.respectively.
She stated that they whisked her out of the tricycle scaring her with their dangerous sharp daggers and big sticks.
Another victim who pleaded anonymity said he was returning his two female students back to one secondary school in the state capital when he followed the Ahmadu Bello Way to collect some new uniform cloth for his daughter from a tailor at Jimeta old market but to surprise they block many cars including his.
He said they bounced on victims intimidating them with dangerous weapons ransacking all the components of any vehicle they stopped and retrieving useful valuables at will.
Confirming the incident, Acting Spokesman of Adamawa Police Command, DSP Habibu Musa said the police have made arrest to that regards and those arrested are helping with useful information that will lead to more arrests in a short distance.
Musa said, “yes there was such complaints from the public and we have made arrest of one boy and he is helping us with vital information that will lead to the apprehension of other members of the gang in short while.”
