Yobe killings: ‘Halt mayhem in schools’

The Chairman Governing Council, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu has called of the federal government to put an end to the senseless killings of students in schools.
Odinkalu who was speaking against recent attack on students in Federal Government Collage Buni-Yadi, Yobe state, said proper machineries should be put in place to arrest the situation.
He said many official reports, including the Marshall Dike report (2009); Galtimari report (2011); and Turaki Committee report (2013) already contain far-reaching proposals for addressing the situation,
adding that the Federal Government and the people of the state must work to bring an end to the atrocities.
The chairman said education was a basic right guaranteed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
