Yobe by-election, a model, says CSO

From Uche Uche, Damaturu

The Director General, Centre For Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness, Dr. Nwambu Gabriel, has described the recently held by election into Nangere state Constituency in Yobe as a model for all other elections in the country in line with transparency, due process and the rule of law Gabriel disclosed while briefing newsmen on the findings of the agency after observing the conduct of the election.

He said the staff of the centre monitored the distribution of sensitive and non sensitive electoral materials within the rule of engagement across the Nangere State Constituency and the turnout of electorates was quite impressive.

“This unprecedented turn out of voters is attributed to the Grass Roots Voter Education and Sensitization conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),” Nwambu said.

Other impressive observations was that voting, sorting, counting and the announcement of result were done accordingly and there was no case of reported violence before, during and after the election and that maximum security was in place to forestall any likelihood of insurgency attacks.

“We, as INEC accredited observers group hereby adjudge that the 31st May 2014 Nangere State Constituency Election was free, fair and credible, and INEC has demonstrated a significant improvement in delivering credible elections thus by this medium we reassure Nigerians to expect credible elections in Ekiti, Osun and consequently in the general elections come 2015,” he added.
