Yero/Bajoga ticket tears Southern Kaduna apart

Gov-YeroFrom Femi Oyelola, Kaduna

Barely 48hrs when a group under the auspices Elected and Appointed Politicians in Kaduna State held a press conference at Ungwar Wakili in Zangon-Kataf Local government area to endorse the ticket of President Goodluck Jonathan and that of Kaduna State Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero and his Deputy, Amb. Nuhu Bajoga for 2015 election, another group from the zone under the umbrella of Nakowa Patriots has disassociated the Southern Kaduna people from the purported endorsement.

In an open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP titled: ‘The position of the electorate of Southern Kaduna on 2015 election’, signed by Elder

Abokie Galadima and Dr. Austin Hyuwa, President and Secretary of the group respectively and made available to the media in Kaduna yesterday, stated that it is on record that since 2011 election results shows that over 80 percent of votes Mr. President got from Kaduna State came from Southern Kaduna, thus, the group considered it an insult to the people of the area to have been locked out of a heavily policed press conference held in their domain to endorse the President.

The group also expressed dismay about the press conference venue, Ungwar Wakili saying that any decision concerning Southern Kaduna has always been taken from Kafanchan or Kagoro, the choice of the venue, the statement added, showed the insincerity of the so-called elected and appointed politicians from the zone.

The group further noted that the incumbent Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero who came into politic in 2007 as a commissioner and later became the deputy governor before becoming the governor all in seven years, is Nigeria’s luckiest politician. But by every stretch of imagination, he has been over pampered, over-compensated and over-patronized politically.

“Governor Yero is yet to pay his due. Thus, his ambition to continue in office as Governor in 2015, in spite of all the unmerited political privileges he has enjoyed, is ill-advised.

“This vaunted ambition is capable of tearing the Party and bringing it to its knees for the first time in 15 years. We consider the Governor’s misplaced ambition as selfish and baseless.

“The offensive attitude and arrogance of Governor Yero has also demoralized the followership of the Party especially in the Northern part of the State. Many of the prominent politicians have been forced

to decamp to the opposition party. The remaining respectable leaders who still control state-wide followership, leaders who are genuine bridge builders that are still in the PDP, are today being side-lined.

In view of the above, the group called on President Goodluck Jonathan and the national leadership of the PDP to the cognizance of the plight of the people of Southern Kaduna and to introduce concrete and positive measures that will bring about healing and reconciliation, because the zone have patiently served and supported the party and the payback time is now.
