The Honourable minister of Youth and Sports Development, Bar. Solomon Dalung has said that the Russia 2018 World Cup in June is a do or die affair to Nigerians as well as Federal government of Nigeria.
The minister stated this on Tuesday while fielding questions from journalists after the 2018 sports budget defense before the House of Representatives Committee on Sports headed by Hon. Goni Buka Lawan at the National Assembly, Abuja.
“We are not just going to the World Cup in Russia to make up the numbers. Africans and the world at large are looking up to Nigeria and we are not going to disappoint them. The result of the friendly match against Argentina speaks volumes of what our boys are capable of doing at the world cup.
“The government through NFF for many times has sorted out issues that can affect or distract the team’s full concentrations.
“There are plans on ground to make sure that the bonuses and allowances of the officials and players will be paid ahead of the tournament. Recently, the coach of the Super Eagles contract has been extended by two years. All these, are steps to make sure they concentrate and also to motivate and also make them psychologically balanced.
“The Russia World Cup is a do or die affair for Nigeria and the government. Nigeria will take the world by storm,” the minister said.
