In an effort to improve the provision of portable and hygienic water supply in the state, the Jigawa State Government has inaugurated a 30- member committee on water, sanitation and hygiene in the state.
The Executive Secretary of the state Ministry of Water Resources, Engineer Nasiru Mahmud Babura who led the inauguration staid the committees would embark to action with immediate effect.
According to him, the two chairmen from both from the side of government and citizen would lead the committee to the next five years.
He explained that, the executive secretary from the Ministry of water resources engineer Nasiru Mahmud is nominated from the side of government as chairman and Alhaji Abbas Taura from the side of citizens is nominated as co-chairman to the committee.
The executive secretary maintained that, WASH programme which was supported by EU as state policy plan to improve the Water Sanitation and Hygiene in the state.
He said, from the commencement of the programme in last five years the state succeeded in establishment of WASH department in each local government and established over 700 water consumer associations the led to the achievement of 90 percent in provision of hygienic water in the state.
Babura then urged the communities to collaborate with government for the success of the programme.
