From Ado Abubakar Musa, Jos

The Plateau State Governor, Barrister Simon Bako Lalong, has said that women did play a significant role in the development of every society and in the absence of them, no nation would attain its developmental goals.
Lalong who was represented by his Director of Research and Documentation, Professor John Wade, said this yesterday in Jos during the second lunch of the Plateau State Action Plan on “He for She Campaign”
According to Lalong, “ for every successful nation, women have in one way or the other contributed a lot considering the fact that they are the first and best teacher of every child. Women ensure that their children are protected even during ward or communal clashes and so therefore, life cannot be achieved without women.
Earlier in her speech, the UN Women country Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Comfort Lamptey, said , “ the He for She Campaign is intended to bring men on board as partners to end violence against women, to promote women’s right and gender equality in the world.
“As UN women, we support women empowerment as our mandate. To empower women to be full citizen in the society, we need men to be partners in this process and that is why we don’t want to leave them behind, “ she added.
