The Plateau state Police Command yesterday foiled a communal clash between the Irigwe and Rukuba communities of Bassa local government area of Plateau state, where many were allegedly killed and houses burnt.
According to a source, the attack was said to be a reprisal from Irigwe community over killing of one woman suspected to have been killed by the Rukuba community.
The Plateau state Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Emmanuel Abuh confirmed the attack in a telephone interview, saying that the Police responded immediately and put a halt to the crisis.
Abuh, however, called on the Irigwe and Rukuba communities to lay down their arms and embrace peace in respective of their differences, adding that the traditional rulers of the said communities should do all they could to ensure peaceful co- existence among their people.
Hon. Kure Abbas Yakwe, who is the member representing Basa in the State House of Assembly confirmed the incident, saying that a 65 year-old woman was killed.
Yakwe said, “Some faceless individual who did not mean well for the community are conniving with outsiders to wreak havoc in the LG.
