Former member of the FIFA Executive Committee, Dr Amos Adamu, has urged the Super Eagles to be confident and determined to win the World Cup against any challenge during the tournament.
Dr Adamu made this known over the weekend during an interaction with the media in Abuja. According to the former Director-General of the National Sports Commission, “the team should even celebrate goal briefly while the match is on saying excitement may cause loss of concentration.
“World cup is not a tea party, it requires 100% concentration. I just hope that all the players have concentration to do well at the tournament.
“Even goal celebration by the team before the final whistle should be minimal otherwise; a goal might just go inside their net. If a player loses concentration for half a minute, damage could be done therefore, everyone needs to be at alert,” he cautioned.
Dr Adamu said the Super Eagles should take their matches one at a time and not under rates any team. On the possibility of the world cup coming to Africa, Adamu expressed optimism.
Africa is ripe enough to win the world cup, the teams must approach the tournament with serious determination to win. They should not go with the inferior mentality to the world cup.
Playing Argentina should not be seen as a problem to the extent that they will be fidgeting once Messi holds the ball. We should go with the right mentality,” he said.
The former sports boss charged the Super Eagles not to expect too much comfort from the environment and the matches but be ready to surmount any hurdle along their way to lift the cup.
The former sports boss urged the nation’s national team including the technical crew, to build on the goodwill enjoyed from the nation and the Nigeria Football Federation.
