Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has for the umpteenth time reiterated that the governorship election in Kwara state on March 2, will be a walkover for the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Mohammed, the adopted leader of the APC in the state, stressed that his party would win the election with ease because it would have dethroned the leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Bukola Saraki, the Senate President, at the senatorial election that would come up alongside presidential election on February 16 which is two weeks earlier.
The Minister stated this in Ilorin at the weekend while speaking at the commissioning of a new state secretariat of the APC donated by one of stalwarts of the party in the state, Olayinka Gobir.
The minister said that before the election is conducted, all alleged thugs of the PDP would be cleared off the streets while the party would be checkmated on all alleged influences they may rely on to rig the election.
Mohammed maintained that the governorship election would be a walkover for the APC because Saraki would likely flee from the state and not wait behind to supervise the governorship election after he might have been defeated at the senatorial race.
Atiku/Buhari popularity contest for Gombe, fake, laughable- Gwamna
Following a recent publication on the degree of acceptability of the candidates of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar and President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by a newspaper, which sees Atiku carting away with 60 per cent votes while Buhari was scored 40 per cent.
A chieftain of APC in Gombe, Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, in a reaction made available to newsmen in Gombe, said the popularity contest was laughable and fake as it does not reflect the true picture of events in the state.
He noted that the criteria for such rating were unfounded, unjustifiable and does not reflect the current political know-how of Gombe as a state, adding that it must have been cooked elsewhere.
“I saw the online report on the degree of acceptability of candidates of PDP and APC for Gombe and I know that such analysis is fake, laughable and unjustifiable looking at the sea of people that came out to welcome the president on Saturday.
“The criteria used for that publication is unfounded. Atiku came to Gombe as well as President Buhari and they both used the same stadium. What was the result? Atiku came for a zonal rally and got less than half of the stadium. President Buhari came on a campaign visit not for zonal campaign, the crowd that stood on the field were six times more than the ones that came for the PDP zonal rally in Gombe.
“ Another factor that must be considered is the fact that, the injustice in PDP and the yearnings of the real voters in Gombe have pushed many bigwigs of the PDP into joining the APC. Just on Saturday, the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole received 16 defectors who were PDP aspirants and senators into the APC.
