The Supporters of the Wikki Tourists Football Club in Bauchi have raised alarm over cases of misappropriation being allegedly perpetrated by the Club’s management particularly during the 2012/2013 premier league season.
The concerned supporters of the club in a letter to the State Governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, said substantial sums of money are being swindled by some management staff of the club, and have continued to wreck financial havoc on the state.
The letter signed by Aminu Abubakar Idris for the concerned supporters, made available to news men in Bauchi at the weekend, revealed that during the season, the sum of about N2 million were allegedly misappropriated every month by the club management.
They also stated in the letter that a number of ghost players were included in the club payroll, thus siphoning from government’s coffers the much-needed revenue of the state.
The supporters recalled that one of the club’s three players sold abroad, precisely to Turkey, Aminu Umar who fetched 130, 000 Euro for his 3-year contract in which Wikki also benefited with 120, 000 Euro during the period.
Club supporters similarly vexed that from the N1.5 million being collected from government’s treasury for a match, only N10, 000 is being doled out to each player after the match while the chunk of the amount goes to private pockets of some management staff.
The club supporters also called on the state government to, as a matter of urgency, disbands the club’s management and reconstitute a new body that would heed to the needs and aspirations of football fans in the state.
However, when Peoples Daily Sports contacted the Club’s Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Chindo on phone, he denied the allegations, saying the group are trying all means to remove me for their interest.
Let’s tell you, we are not the full owner of Umar, we don’t have ghost players all our players in our pay rolled are fully documented, these set of peoples were behind our relegation to lower division.
“We recruited new players and asked some to look elsewhere, we have assured our fans to return the club to premier league, we want them to join us in the struggle to return the club where it rightful belong.
“We known the peoples are against us because we are financially prudent to ensure the little one given to us are well managed, they want us to squander the money because that is they target, we will not do that, our aim is to promote the club to a higher level for the state not for some group of peoples.
“The state government has early said that the state are facing tough financial resources that hardly foots state salaries bill, how would Wikki Tourist have ghost players or engage financial reckless, “ Chindo asked.
