The speaker of Edo House of Assembly, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto has said incompetence necessitated the sack of thd firmer leadership in the All Progressives Congress led house.
Adjoto, spoke at an interactive session with Media practioners on Thursday in Benin City, the state Capital.
The speaker in what suggest to be a tactical retreat which is designed to take the edge off the calls by interest groups to yield the position of speaker to Edo South senatorial district in the state for political balancing.
According to Adjoto who spoke through Hon. Emmanuel Agbaje, member representing Akoko-Edo constituency II, said: “In the last two years or so, you may not have seen it from outside, gentlemen of the press.
“Those of us who are in there knew and realized that the collective interest of every other constituency that makes up that house was in danger.
“We were elected for a four-year tenure and, when you do a self appraisal, you look at yourself, two years down the lane, we have or achieved?.
“Before now, can I go back to my constituency to say that because we had an effective leadership that was the reason that we could not perform?…we look at ll that and said to us to have a good success, we must have collective and effective leadership by motivating members to say enough of this negative tolerance.
“We were not going the right way…
“The question that now arises is that as a member of the Parliament don’t you have the rights to elect your leadership. I want to say that by the grace of God, our new speaker is doing very well to the admiration of all.
“Even those people or the previous leadership whom many thought could kill, they did not habour any grudge because they have admitted that we needed change…They have realized that they were not on the right path”, he said.
