Police in Benin have advanced reasons why thirteen suspects arrested in connection with the Divisional Police station in Afuze, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, attack were yet-to-be paraded.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), a pregnant police officer and two other personnel were killed on Tuesday March 12, 2019 night attack by gunmen who also set the police patrol Hilux van and the station ablaze.
The hoodlums were said to have stormed the station with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), which they detonated before carting away rifles and other ammunition at police armoury.
Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Danmallam Mohammed, explained that the parade was suspended not to scuttle ongoing investigation with the support of sister security agencies.
He revealed this while parading suspended criminals and cultists at the Nigerian Police headquarters Friday in Benin City.
“The reason why I did not want to parade them is because I do not want anything to jeopardize our investigation”.
He said that “the battle line has been drawn between criminals” over the killings which he described as barbaric.
He said that suspected cultists caught with firearms will be proceeded for arm robbery.
Danmallam, stated that over 100 suspects had been arrested by the police since he assumed duty in February this year.
He charged religious leaders and parents to caution their Children against harmful behaviour.
He noted that the State Police Command under his watch, will not shield collaborators and sponsors of cultism in Edo State.
The command recovered 138 cartridges and ammunition during the various operations.
