Deportivo La Coruña goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho is expected to make his international debut today as the Super Eagles and Argentina clash in a 2018 World Cup preparatory match. The talented 19 year old watched from the bench as the Super Eagles played out a 1-1 draw with Algeria on Friday.
It has been understood that apart from his reflexes and talent, Super Eagles gaffer, Gernot Rohr’s strong liking for him has been overtly impressed with the qualities of the shot stopper.
A source in the NFF explained “He is well loved by coach Rohr due to several attributes he has seen in Uzoho which he believes modern day goalkeepers should possess if they want to go far”, the source said
“Uzoho has one thing working for him as soon as you see him. He is a big lad and Germans like their goalkeepers big, reasons why former Super Eagles coach Berti Vogts preferred Austin Ejide to Vincent Enyeama few years ago.
“Aside his physical attribute, Uzoho is also very good at taking crosses, he commands his area very well and with all due respect to the goalkeepers we have now, Uzoho is the best in playing with his legs, something Rohr likes a lot”.
Uzoho made his first team – and La Liga – debut on 15 October 2017, starting in a 0–0 away draw against SD Eibar. At the age of 18 years and 352 days, he became the youngest ever foreign goalkeeper to debut in La Liga, and the second-youngest player to appear in the league during the campaign, only behind Real Madrid’s Achraf Hakimi
