*APC reacts, reveals next step
From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna
The Senator representing Kaduna Central at the Senate, Shehu Sani has given an insight into why he decided to dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, saying the party has been hijacked by Governors and have formed a kind of Mafia to control the party.
Sani, who spoke to team of reporters in Kaduna yesterday, said because the Governors have much money at their disposal they have pocketed the party and its activities in their states and National Office.
He added that the President and National Chairman are under the mercy of the Governors; and this is not in the interest of internal democracy.
It would be recalled that relationship between Shehu Sani and Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai was not so cordial because of some government policies which he described as anti people. This did not go down well with the governor who substituted him with his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Malam Uba Sani.
Senator Shehu Sani’s resignation letter to APC reads in part:
“l had joined the APC and remained with it against all odds in the belief that it will constitute a veritable platform for the realization of those democratic ideals which I hold very dear, that honor and integrity will be the ultimate ethos of the party and, most importantly, that internal party democracy will always be the norm.
“However, only posterity can affirm the extent to which the APC has committed to and reflected these values.
“As I exit the APC at this point in time, I wish to formally thank the party for availing me the platform upon which I am currently serving this country in the honoured capacity of Senator of the Federal Republic.
“I wish the party well in all her future endeavors and ask Sir, that you please accept the assurance of my highest consideration.”
On its part, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has reacted to the resignation of Senator Shehu Sani from the party.
Speaking on the development, APC in a terse statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said it was studying and relating all the facts before taking an appropriate action.
The statement read: “We received the news of the alleged defection of Senator Shehu Sani through media reports.
“The party leadership will relate with all the facts concerning the reported defection and react appropriately in due course.”
