A member of the House of Representatives, representing Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency, in Lagos, Tony Nwulu has revealed why he defected from Peoples Democratic Party,PDP to United Progressive Party, UPP
Our correspondent reports that, 33 lawmakers last Tuesday defected from All Progressives Congress, APC to his former party.
Nwulu who hails from Imo state in a chat with journalists yesterday explained that “ politics in whatever shape is local and where I can get the desired support as a young man is UPP.
The promoter of the recently endorsed not ‘too young Bill’ which won international accolades said”I needed to leave PDP now because of my governorship ambition and the fact that the Imo state chapter of the party is currently saturated by recycled politicians who don’t like the face of young men like me.
“I know that any attempt for me to remain I may not have this kind of opportunity again and if you recall just last April all the youths in Imo state stormed the National Assembly to encourage me to run so I cannot afford to disappoint the young men.
He said “this defection is as a result of irreconcilable conflicts in my party and in accordance with Section 68 1(g) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
Also in the letter he read on the floor of the House Nwulu said:’’’While assuring you of my continuous support to your leadership, my cooperation and loyalty to the legislative agenda of the House, please accept the assurances of my warmest regards as always.”
When asked on why he chose UPP as his new party, he said besides having a governorship ambition, the new platform was a better party to achieve his political ambition in Imo State, his home state.
