Why Henry Makinwa left Katsina United

On Monday, former Katsina United head coach, Henry Makinwa left his position with the club on “mutual ground.”
Makinwa led the team to a seventh position finish at the aborted 2019/2020 Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL season and recorded other remarkable results with the team.
However, their close to two years romance came to an abrupt end leading many to ask questions.
Findings show that Makinwa had a good working relationship with the management of the team but things got out of hand after the state government decided to promote “indigenisation policy” within the state.
A competent source told our correspondent that the government is currently implementing a policy where only the indigenes of the state are expected to hold high positions in the state-owned parastatals.
The source who described coach Makinwa as a great tactician said the club had to lose him because of the native policy.
“Coach Makinwa is a great coach but the state government policy has made it inevitable that Katsina United will part with him at this point.
“I don’t want to say that he was a victim of the policy but it is one of the things one can see in government.
“So it was change in government policy. The government want to promote the indigenes. They wrote to his assistant coach who is from the state to take over. It is like an empowerment programme for the people of Katsina,” the source said.
He however said that Makinwa’s resignation was purely mutual.
“It is a mutual consent. No crisis at all.”
