As the world marked Workers’ Day, yesterday, the officials of Development Control Department, of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) stormed a plot which the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had planned to develop a mass housing project called ‘Nigeria workers Estate’.
The department’s bulldozers on the eve of the celebration rolled into the Plot, located at the Karsana South District of Abuja, which the Department claimed “was originally meant to serve as golf course, but the developers could not consider the purpose clause and went ahead to mobilize to site.”
A statement signed by the Department’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kalu Emetu, explained the action is in line with the earlier public announcements advising members of the public to always confirm from the Department before engaging in any transaction with developers.
It said the plan was already in top gear by the NLC for the flag off ceremony, where so many dignitaries including, the leadership of the FCT Administration had already been invited.
“Unsuspecting members of the public are expected to confirm from the Department before any action, if the subscriber had visited the department, they would have known that something was wrong with the Plot.
“Abuja is a planned City and therefore every available Plot is designated for one thing or the other which is the more reason why the Department is always there to answer all questions to everybody”, he said.
The statement however, added that the estate project would have been a boost to the workers as they celebrate the year’s Workers Day.
