When Yorubas celebrated carnival of unity in Zuba

On the 16th of December, 2018, the Yoruba people of Zuba in Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT gathered at Ikwa junction to celebrate the 1st Yoruba Youth carnival in a grand style.
It was indeed a special celebration, as the yorubas thronged the arena to showcase their cultural heritage. The colourful occasion was attended by impatent government dignitaries in the territory.
One of the government functionaries who spoke. During the carnival ceremony, the chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Adamu Mustapha Danze, commended the leadership of Yoruba Community in Zuba for the step being taken to organize the carnival to unite the youths, especially the Yoruba youths in the area.
However, the chairman specifically lauded the chairman of the occasion, Chief (Dr) Wasiu Tunwase who doubled as the Otunba of FCT for gathering the Yoruba youths in order to promote their cultural norms.
The Gwagwalada Council Chairman assured yorubas that his administration would not hesitate to support the Yoruba Community in Zuba for its activities
Fielding questions from the Peoples Daily correspondent during the celebration of the carnival, the chairman of the day, Chief (Dr) Wasiu Tunwase, said the Yoruba youth carnival was the 1st of its kind in Zuba community.
He pointed out that the youth carnival was being organized in order to unite the yorubas in Zuba and beyond. “In fact, we join hands to celebrate the youth carnival in Zuba for the sake of peace of yorubas”. he added.
Otunba further said: “The Yoruba youth carnival aimed at bringing unity, peace and way forward to the Yoruba community in Zuba and its environs.
On the 2019 general elections the Otunba charged the Yoruba youths to come out en masse to vote the candidates of their choice, urging them to desist from any act capable of generating tension before, during and after the elections.
He then advised the youths to continue to respect the Yoruba traditional rulers as well as constituted authorities at all times. Tunwase, however, appealed to Obas of yorubas to continue to preach peace during their subjects, as well to maintain good relationship with the host communities.
However, the Otunba, thanked the chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Adamu Mustapha Danze, the Vice-chairman of the council, Hon. Mohammed Kasim, the Oba of Yoruba in the FCT, Oba Olusegun Salau, the Oba Yoruba Zuba, Alhaji M.A. Odun Mbaku, the Oba Yoruba Yimi, Chief OlatunjiOpeifa and OloriOdo of Zuba, Chief Ayanlere Ibrahim Yusufu among other obas who attended the occasion.
At this juncture, some of the important associations and clubs also graced the carnival ceremony which included: Oyo Toro Progressive club, Bomode Oku Social Club, Akorede Prosgressive Club, Iwo OdiDere Nice Club, League of Friends, Unity Women’s Club, Legacy Club, Ewe Laiye N’ FE Social Club, Yoruba Forum Fruit Market, Surprise Women Club, Okun Development Association, Ife Descendant, Ikare Descendant, Good Ambition, Nice Club, Unity Progressive Club, Prestige Club, Yoruba Youth Fancy Club and Tanimola Best Club (A.K.A TOKOLASE).
Also, on the 15th of December 2018, the Yorubas International Ultramodern Building Materials Traders Association Filindabo Dei-dei, FCT celebrated end of the year party which first started in 2004, with the attendance of the important personality.
Similarly, one of the activities carried out by the leadership of Yoruba community in this year was the inauguration of the executives of APC Southwest Forum in Gwagwalada which took place at Jeparo Hotel.
Speaking during the inauguration, the chairman of APC Southwest in the FCT chapter, Pastor OlusegunErinle, charged the newly inaugurated executives to lay a solid foundation for those who are coming behind.
He also urged the new officials to play politics of integrity, while advising them to be transparent in whatever they do.
He said: “Politicians in the Southwest should join force with APC to make sure that a credible change that will guarantee a solid future, not only for our children but for Nigeria as a nation is established or put in place”.
Erinle pleaded with the youths to shun politics of bitterness and advised them not to identify with the politicians who would engage them in the political hooliganism or violence.
Also speaking, the State APC Vice-chairman FCT Chapter, Hon. Patrick Ogunyemi, urged the new officials to come together to speak with one voice in order to ripe the dividends of democracy in the area.
He further asked the officials to deem it fit to pilot the affairs of APC South-West properly, so that they could actualize their dreams for the forum.
Ogunyemi called on the youths to rise up to contest for political positions, as the President MuhammaduBuhari had signed the bill “Not too Young to Run” into law.
On his part, the Vice-chairman APC South-west FCT Chapter, Chief (Dr)Wasiu Tunwase, who is also the Otunba of Yoruba community in the FCT, advised the new officials of APC South West forum in Gwagwalada not to betray the confidence reposed on them.
Tunwase therefore, solicited the support and co-operation of the Yoruba people to continue to live in peace with the indigenes, noting that yorubas are known to be peace-loving people.
The Oba of Yoruba in the FCT, Oba Olusegun Salau, who spoke during the inauguration, charged the APC Southwest forum in Gwagwalada to tolerate one another. In his speech, the chairman of the forum in Gwagwalada, Mr Ojo Sunday, said his leadership would carry every member of the forum along in the affairs of things.
To this end, the activities of Yoruba Community under review appointed the Oba of Yoruba in Gwagwalada and to be turbaned by the Aguma of Gwagwalada, Alhaji Muhammadu Magajias soon as the Yoruba community is ready to do so
Meanwhile, the Otunba of the FCT, Chief (Dr) Wasiu Tunwase would be remembered for his policies and programmes aimed at bringing Yoruba people together in the six area councils and beyond for the sake of unity among them.
