The North-West Democratic Movement has said it has uncovered plots by the former governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to cause disharmony among the good people of Sokoto state.
The group stated this in a press release signed by its national coordinator Mohammed Alkali Silame and made available to the media in Kaduna yesterday.
The statement stated that its condemn in strong terms the subterranean moves by Bafarawa to cause confusion and disaffection among the peace loving people of Sokoto State after observing that he cannot deliver Sokoto State to the PDP as he has earlier on promised them.
According to the statement Bafarawa became seemingly invincible, and began to embark on certain actions and conduct that brought about his political downfall in the state.
Relationship soured between him and his deputy, who was forced to resign in 2006, after being pushed around in various forms through intimidation and needless invitations to party office to meet with the then executives, ostensibly, to answer questions, just as there were attempts to impeach him at the House of Assembly. All attempts to reconcile the two failed.
“Bafarawa’s pride and arrogance did not go unnoticed as he also incurred the anger of traditional institutions when his relationship with the late Sultan Muhammadu Maccido soured, due to, among other things, the perception that he was planning to create an emirate headed by his father, Alhaji Dalhatu Bafarawa, whom he upgraded to a District Head.
“Bafarawa has shown open disrespect to the present Sultan Mohammed Sa’ad on several occasions, even to the highly respected Turakin Sokoto and former President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari.
Alhaji Bafarawa also drew anger from state civil servants whose 3-step salary was cut for seven years. Till date civil servants in Sokoto will never forgive Bafarawa for what he did to them.
The group accused Bafarawa of doing everything possible to undermine the peace and security being enjoyed in Sokoto State.
The group informed the Abuja kingpin of PDP that Bafarawa as at today cannot win the councillorship seat in his ward in Isa Local government area of Sokoto State and that is the fact, 2015 will reveal this.
North-West Democratic Movement however called on the good people of Sokoto State and Governor Wammako to remain steadfast and undaunted and keep the flag flying.
“We are behind him and we want to call on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to revisit the case of corruption against Bafarawa and bring him to book, and if his hobnobbing with the power that be in Abuja is a decoy to cover up the case we shall remain resolute in advocating that justice must be done with regards to the billions of money belonging to the people of Sokoto State misappropriated by Bafarawa,” the statement concluded.
