Giwa FC striker, Charles Okoro has said his side performed creditably well in the out gone 2013/14 Glo Premier League season. The newcomers finished fourth on the 20-team Nigerian topflight final placement on 60 points, five points behind league champions, Kano Pillars.
Okoro said though his side targeted the league crown but fourth finish as debutants ahead of traditional sides like Enugu Rangers, Dolphins, Sharks, Heartland, Sunshine Stars, among other is a worthy achievement.
“We feel satisfied as debutants going that far to finish fourth in same league that has the likes of Rangers, Dolphins, Sharks, Heartland, Sunshine Stars, among other is quite a great achievement.
“On the other hand, too we feel bad that we lost few keys matches at Crown FC, Kaduna United and Gombe United which if we had picked the maximum points would’ve put us on strong footing to win the league title.
“Again aware that the likes of Bayelsa United, Akwa United, El Kanemi Warriors and Taraba FC struggled and waited for the final day match to know their individual fate strikes some cords in us to keep thanking God for great things He did for us.
“I know we can always look up to the future with high hope of excelling in the next season. “I understand that teams that paid no attention to us as newcomers in the out gone season will certainly swoop on us next time they meet us on the field of play because of our singular performance this season. “Giwa FC are sure to get better in the upcoming season,” the former Dolphins player stated.
Giwa performed far better than all the other debutants namely Abia Warriors’ seventh position on 58 points and FC Taraba on 12 position on 53 points while Crown FC finished the season as 18th best on inadequate 39 points and were subsequently relegated to the Nigeria National League (NNL).
