Warring factions reach truce, Zamfara APC guber primary holds today

The Zamfara state Governor, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Abubakar-led assigned committee has agreed to conduct the state governorship primary today.
This comes after disagreements surrounding violation of rules as claimed by the state government.
The election which was initially slated to hold last Monday was interrupted by the delay of the committee to arrive the state, and the arguments from both the factions of Governor Yari and the G-8 over credibility of voters that involved membership cards issued by the party since 2014 and the recent ones allegedly issued by members of G-8.
The governor’s argument , according to him at a press conference last Tuesday was that, the committee was lopsided as it allegedly supported the use of illegally issued membership cards distributed to supporters of G-8 meant for winning the election at all cost.
“I will not allow this primary election to hold in Zamfara state tomorrow (Wednesday) being the Chief Security Officer of the state unless if the committee assigned by the national headquarters of our great party would respect the laws which contained a complete guidance of the primary elections under our great party,” said Governor Yari.
Meanwhile, the faction of the embattled G-8 during a stakeholders meeting held at the state Police headquarters yesterday, has raised an accusing finger against Governor Yari, alleging that he wanted to manipulate the committee and the election with a view to pave way for his anointed sole gubernatorial candidate to become the party’s flag bearer.
Earlier, the Chairman of the elections Committee, Dr. Abubakar Fari at a press conference held at the state Police Command claimed that, nothing would be entertained apart from rules laid by the party over the primary elections, adding that, “Only a member of the APC who has a Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and a party membership card would be allowed to vote”.
In a separate press conference yesterday, Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar heralded that after contacts have been made by the state government with the presidency and the national headquarters of the vAPC, the committee has now agreed to abide by the rules laid by the party on the ongoing primary elections.
