From Osakhare Erese Asaba
The leader of the vigilante group in Warri, Mr. Zion Esi, has called on Northern leaders resident in South-South to collaborate with the group to end incessant clashes involving herdsmen in the region.
Esi said that herdsmen activities remain a security threat to the West and the South-South regions.
He also expressed his strong belief in restructuring, saying for Nigeria to have genuine unity, the issue of restructuring must be taken care of urgently.
He said prominent members of the South-South Assembly and the Council of Chiefs in South-South and the Youth Forum have thrown their weight behind restructuring.
Esi advocated the need for regionalism and community policing, adding that “we have to build Nigeria to a country that we can call our own”.
He described the issue of herdsmen as a sad reminder of what Nigeria is known for. “Candidly, what we hear about the Fulani of the past negate the stories we hear now and this is pathetic and sad
“The stories started filtering in from the North Central and North-East and metamorphosed to the South West and South-South where people were killed and properties and several hectares of land destroyed.”
While he called for synergy with the Northern leaders, and the South-South to curb herdsmen activities, he said, am using this opportunity to appeal you and at the same time ask for your cooperation on the best way to end the unnecessary killings by herdsmen.
“The issue of herdsmen is a security threat to the South-South, South West region and the Federal Government must do something to stop them immediately.”
