A staff of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Inusa Magaji has called on the Federal Government to intensify the fight against kidnapers in Kaduna state, especially the Kaduna – Birnin-Gwari axis in order to save citizens the agony they passed through in kidnapers’ dens.
He stated this while fielding questions from the media after he regained his freedom from kidnapers in Kaduna yesterday.
According to him, the marauders are becoming embolden and heartless in their operations as they even boast of killing any of their victims who cannot pay the ransom and ready to sell vital organs of victims.
Narrating his experience, Magaji said “ On the February 11, 2018 as a staff NRC attached to Kaduna – Abuja railway, at about 7.30pm he went to refuel his tank at the airport road filing station; but when he got there was no fuel and he turned back to buy from the black marketers. “It was on returning back to my station that I saw about six men in military camouflage along Mando road, they flashed me down with their touch lights. I stopped thinking they are military personnel, they approached and told me to step out of the car, identified themselves as kidnapers.
“They forced me to trekked about 5 kilometers into the bush where they later on called about seven of their members who later arrived with motorcycles to convey us farther into their hideout. At this point I was blindfolded and my hands tied to the motorcycle.
“When we arrived at their hideout, I met other victims who they proudly boasted to have been kidnapped on the same rout. They commanded me to unlock my phone’s security at a gun point which I did.
“They scrolled through my bank account and asked me to give them three people’s numbers who they can open communication with. I gave them my son and wife’s numbers, which they later communicated with demanding a ransom of N24 million. I told them that I don’t have such amount of money.
“After negotiation and threats, they reduced to N2 million and I still pleaded with them that there is nowhere I can raise that amount as a civil servant. On the second day, they asked me how much I could raise and I told them I have N400,000 in my account. They later called my son and told him if he intend to see his father again, he should go and look for N500,000.
“They gave me the phone to speak to my son, and I instructed him on how to withdrew the amount and my colleagues where informed about the news of my kidnap supported with the balance of N100,000.
“They told my son to take the money to a junction before Buruku along Kaduna – Birnin-Gwari road and about 30minutes later the phone of one of the kidnapers rang and he told me that my son has just paid the ransom and I should jump up. The blindfolded me again and sat me on a motorcycle, and after zig-zag driving they dropped me off at a place and they unfolded my eyes. I saw my son and they told the two of us to start running without looking back otherwise they will kill the two of us.
“We saw a commercial motorcyclist who took us to the major road and from there I went to Kawo Police Station to report, but the case has already been report at the station and my car is secured.
“One thing that actually delivered me from the kidnapers is that as a citizen of Adamawa, I speak Fulfulde very fluently so they said I am their brother that is why they collected a low ransom and spared my life.
“I am calling on the Federal Government to do something very urgent to address the situation and save many people who are still in the hands of the kidnapers. I am lucky to be a life today, but they showed me corpses of victims who even after paying the ransom were killed and their corpses harvested.”
