Varsity Don urges FG to pay attention to teaching profession

National Teachers Institute (NTI) Consultant, Professor Thomas K Adeyanju yesterday said teaching is a serious profession that needs government attention so as to address fallen standard of education in the country.

According to him, teaching profession is a very important profession in the world.

Speaking at a Course Facilitators and Centre Managers’ Training-the-trainer Workshop organized by NTI held in Kaduna, Professor Adeyanju described NTI as teachers university that has contributed immensely in improving the standard of teachers in the country.

“NTI is a teachers university because they take teachers training seriously. We all know that teaching is a serious profession and many students see their teachers as future role model . This is why we make sure our teachers take their students seriously.

” I started teaching in 1956 and I love the profession so much and if I could still remain in the profession till date it means It’s a serious profession,” he said.

He called on the participants at the workshop to ensure that they educate their colleagues with the knowledge acquired at the workshop.

Earlier, in his remarks, NTI Director General, Associate Professor Aminu Ladan Sharehu stressed the importance of training and retraining of teachers in the country.

He said with quality teachers and education all social vises will be addressed.

“Mention any problem be it political, socially, economy, any problem at all would be addressed with quality education” he said.
