US partners Nigeria police on training

The United States Department’s Bureau of International Narcotic and Law Enforcement Affairs and the Nigerian Police Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Police training modernisation project.

At the signing ceremony, Ambassador of the US to Nigeria, James Entwistle said the essence of the partnership is to better equip Nigerian Police to carry out its duties because of the importance of the Police in democracy, since they are to protect lives and properties.

He said the MoU is signed in the spirit of humility with no iota of arrogance adding that the department will stand with Nigeria all the way as we prepare for the 2015 elections.

In his address, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar said training is key to enable officers be efficient and is key to what is done on daily basis.

He urged officers and men that will benefit from the training to be committed as this will make them more useful to the community.

He said partnership between the two countries has been there over time and this avail the opportunity to bring it closer and make it work better and more efficient.

In another development, the Department for International Development (DFID) presented a strategic guideline on counter terrorism and eight other areas on policing.

High point of the event was the presentation of IGP 2013 honors award to officers and men of the Criminal Investigation Department.
