A Pan Urhobo Support Group Identified as” Emuvwie R” Urhobo Association” on Monday called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to maintain and stick to the age- long tradition of selecting the next Vice Chancellor of the Delta State University Abraka based on merit The group also urged the governor to disregard the calls that the next DELSU VC should be appointed based on the ethnicity, saying that no ethnic group has the right claim to be Vice Chancellor of the University owned by the state government and appealed that unless merit play key role, appointment of Vice Chancellor might spell doom.
At the a media conference in Asaba, the group led by its President, Olorogun Paul Ejakpomehwe Abu, explained that an earlier report calling on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to send visitation panel to DELSU, was aimed at dragging the name of the Urhobos and the progressive achievements of DELSU under Professor Victor Peretemode to the mud.
The group clarified that DELSU had never picked a VC based on ethnic consideration since its creation, saying that championing the call for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to appoint the next DELSU VC based on ethnicity were enemies of “Merit Tradition” which the revered institution is known for.
The group while commending Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his developmental strides in the institution, warned that those who are bent on creating crisis in the institution to desist, adding that they would not allow anyone to drag DELSU into the needless crisis.
