Upsurge in crimes: Delta records 7,358 Court cases

The Delta state Judiciary said it has recorded cases in various courts in the state 7, 358 ,3,919 filed, 3,307 disposed and 60 Kidnappers sentenced to life imprisonment out of which 16 were high profile kidnap cases.
The state Chief Judge, Justice Marshall Umukoro who spoke to Journalists on Thursday in Asaba on exclusive chat, disclosed that 340 persons were convicted at the Magistrate courts out of 4,585 cases filed in a total number of 8,501 cases pending at the end of July 2019, adding that the increasing number of cases filed in various courts in the state and amount of patronage enjoyed from members of the public, was due to the renewed Public confidence in Judiciary.
Justice Umukoro described the achievements of the Judiciary in the stemming upsurge of criminality in the state as pathetic, and decried the inflitration of crime in families, educational system, state institutions, corridors of power and even churches, mosoques, adding” the onslaught against violent crimes in our society is an undertaking in respect of which we must all see ourselves as stakholders, we have a common enemy here and no stones should be left unturned in order to spare our dear state the bleak prospects of socio economic collapse precipitated by an atmosphere of general insecurity of life and property” and however assured of the Judiciary’s commitment to the rule of laws
He warned against injustice in the dispensation of the laws , adding that any Judge or magistrate found short of the law practices and the rules would be adequately sanctioned in accordance with the edicts, and commended the state Governor,Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for commitment and support for the state Judiciary, especially in the provision of basic infrastructures.
Meanwhile, the state commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu has called on the youths to rise up against challenges with a view to finding solutions to them as they come, rather than engaging in crimes capable of destroying their future in the nation building.
Aniagwu noted that Nigerian youths were excelling in their chosen careers like sports and entertainment, recalling that recently, Delta state youths showcased their talents during the National Sports Festival held in Kwara state being the overall winner
Aniagwu who spoke on Thursday while exchanging views with a group of Delta youths who visited him in his office, however promised that the state government through the ministry of information will continue to partner with any youth Organization whose conduct was geared towards promoting socio economic well-being of Deltans
