One of the frontline gubernatorial aspirants of People Democratic Party(PDP) in Kwara State, Mohammed Dele Belgore(SAN) and his supporters have been reportedly beaten up by suspected political thugs at his campaign office in Ilorin.
An eye witness who craves for anonymity narrated the incident to journalists yesterday.
The source who escaped from been lynched at the campaign office located at Kwara Museum area disclosed that the suspected thugs in their hundred stormed the office with dangerous weapons and chanting war songs.
The source said, some of them, who were harmless were beaten with the thugs throwing chairs and bottles at Belgore before he was whisked away by his aides who also suffered in the hands of their assailants.
Our correspondent learnt that the incident occurred on Wednesday evening while Belgore gathered his supporters to appeal to them to remain calm over the alleged fraud that characterized the governorship primary of PDP in the state.
While reacting to the incident, the media aide to Belgore, Mr Rafiu Ajakaiye condemned the action of the suspected thugs noting that whoever sent them, did not tow the path of democracy.
In the statement made available to journalists in Ilorin, Belgore said “they imported thugs to harass officials and party elders who do not share their desperation and unsportsmanlike conducts. They went as far as attacking our campaign headquarters and injuring our supporters.
“Their thugs threw caution into the wind and molested our mothers and wives. When did our campaign headquarters become venue of the primaries to warrant attack? We condemn this desperation.”
