Authorities of University of Benin (UNIBEN) have inaugurated the first phase of completed projects at newly developed ‘site B’ segment, Ugbowo Campus of the Institution.
Kano Emir and Chancellor of the University, HRH, Muhammad Sanusi II, performed the inauguration and other projects at Ugbowo Campus of the ivory tower on the sidelines of the 43rd Convocation of the University.
A statement that emanated from the Public Relations officer (PRO) of the University, Mr. Michael Osasuyi, listed the projects at ‘site B’ to include two number football pitch at the sports Complex, Gulf court, Veterinary offices for staff, veterinary laboratory, Botanic garden which will boost research and Scientific studies on animals welfare.
Osasuyi, in the statement which was made available yesterday to journalists in Benin City, said the feat “is in line with the 5-year development plan of the University under the leadership of its Vice-Chancelor, Prof. Faraday Orumwense few years ago, towards expanding the frontiers of warning and teaching”.
The projects were funded by Federsl government Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and NEEDS assessment, Internally generated revenue (IGR from UNIBEN and UNIBEN Alumni association.
Aso inaugurated by the Chancellor at the main Campus, we’re a female hostel block, Centre of Excellence in reproductive Health and Innovation (CERHI), library and lecture Theatre halls for Faculty at the Education; ultra-modern studio for Faculty of Environmental Science and the UNIBEN Micro finance.
The Bank which is located few meters away from the Faculty of Education is expected to provide Banking services to staff, students and the public, was donated by the Alumni association of the University.
Engr Wilfred Irogue, Deputy Director of works during the facility, informed the Chancellor that the the Micro Finance Bank had been approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Besides, the facilities will among others, provide social amenities and development to its immediate Communities including Igue-Ehana and Uteh-Koko and discourage further encroachment on the University land by land speculators.
Principal Officers of the Institution led by its Pro-chancellor, Hon. Isa Ashiru, Vice-Chancelor of the University, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, the Registrar, Mrs. Otasowie Oshodin, the University Liberian, Dr. (Mrs) Evelyn Omoluabi Idiodi, the Director pf Physical planning (DPP), Architect Timmy Ikhisemojie, Provost and Deans from the various Faculties led by Prof. Victor Edosa Omozuwa, Dean of Post Graduate studies (UNIBEN) accompanied the Kano Emir, HRH Muhammad Sanusi II on the exercise.
