The Association of Science Laboratory Technologists of Nigeria, University of Abuja Branch has kicked off a three-day scientific training workshop for its members on Monday.
Speaking at the occasion, the vice-chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah who was represented by the Dean of Faculty of Agriculture in the institution, Prof. Aiyedun Ernest, called for training and retraining of the laboratory technologists in order to meet up with the challenging trends of technological development(s).
Na’Allah, however, charged the leadership of the association to extend the scientific training workshop to other universities to attract revenue generation.
On her part, the chairman of the association, Mrs. Alu Adaeze Joy, explained that the Association of Science Laboratory Technologists of Nigeria is an affiliation of Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology.
This, according to her, “the institute was founded in 1971 and established by Act of the National Assembly No. 12 in 2003 of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology”.
“Science laboratory professionals work in the laboratories where they carry out experiments and practicals for students in the universities and other research institutions”, Adaeze Joy said.
However, the keynote speakers at the workshop, commended the laboratory scientists for the radical steps being taken to organise the scientific training for their members.
Meanwhile, the training workshop entitled “General laboratory Safety, Instrumentation and Techniques”.
