The Sultan Maccido Institute for Peace, Leadership and Development Studies of the University of Abuja on Tuesday organised a memorial lecture in honour of the late Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido who died in 2006.
In his remarks, the Vice – chancellor of the University, Prof. Michael Adikwu, said the inaugural lecture was held in order to remember the legacies left behind by the late Sultan Maccido of Sokoto.
His words: “I have taken some pains to study the life and principles of the late Sultan Maccido and to discuss with people who had close relationship with him and I am left with the conviction that he stood tall above his peers in the pursuit of peace, practical leadership acumen and deep sentimental attachment to sustainable development”.
Adikwu told the crowd that the management of “the University through the Sultan Maccido Institute was pursuing aggressive academic and non-academic programmes to instill the tenets of peace, leadership and development in the public and private lives of Nigerians”.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar II
