The Governing Council of the University of Abuja has appointed Mallam. Rufai Ahmed as bursar of the institution.
The council at its 47th extra-ordinary meeting held at the university approved the recommendation of the University selection board, which had parleyed with applicants for the post and recommended Mallam Rufai Ahmed from a shortlist among 19 applicants.
This was contained in a statement by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Michael Adikwu, pointed out that the appointment of the bursar, which was specified in the university Decree number 106 of 1992 as amended by Decree number 11 of 1993 was for a single term of five years in line with the provision of the miscellaneous Act.
Ahmed was a deputy bursar with the University of Maiduguri before he is appointed the new bursar of the University of Abuja.
He was born in Gurin, Adamawa state on 31st December 1964. The new bursar graduated with a B.Sc in accountancy from the University of Maiduguri in 1990 and bagged an MBA finance from the same University in 2003.
Ahmed began his career as an accountant II with the Bursar Department Ahmadu Bello University (A.B.U) Zaria in 1991 and rose to accountant I in 1998.
He also joined the service of the University of Maiduguri as a senior accountant in 2001 after a stint in the private establishment and remained with the university, rising through the ranks until his new appointment.
He is a member of many professional bodies including an associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) as well as a member Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) London. Ahmed is married and has seven children.
