Two persons were yesterday electrocuted in Bauchi metropolis while attempting to cross over electric cables in Tirwun suburb area, along Bauchi-Maiduguri road in Bauchi, after watching the Brazil 2014World Cup football match between Nigeria and Iran.
The Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi state Police Command, DSP Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incident yesterday to newsmen in Bauchi.
According to him, “We received information from Sariki of Tirwun, that at about 9 p.m. on Monday, about 12 persons were in a room watching football match, and all of a sudden, there was an electric spark and two persons were electrocuted while stepping on the fallen cables as a result of rainstorm”.
The PPRO said the eight persons injured are currently receiving treatment at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), adding that the corpses of the two that died were deposited at the hospital.
All efforts to get the reaction of the officials of the Jos Electricity Distribution Company failed, as a senior official of the company who refused to speak, said the state Manger, is the only person to comment on such issue, had travelled to Abuja.
