Rival groups believed to be fighting over control of a lottery point in Ilorin, Kwara state, have injured many traders at Railway area of general post office while two people are feared dead.
Peoples Daily gathered that the hoodlums engaged themselves in a violent clash on Monday with dangerous weapons throwing people in the area into panic.
Investigations revealed that the violence started on Sunday night. Most of the areas affected include, Edun, Emir Road, Post-Office and its neighbouring streets such as Murtala, Offa Road, Taiwo Isale among others.
A reliable source who spoke with Journalists under condition of anonymity said he saw some hoodlums wielding cutlasses on the street in Kilanko area of Offa Garage, some kilometres away from the centre of the crisis.
The source who, has a business outfit in Murtala and was on the way to his office said, “People tried to avoid them as they moved towards the Sawmill in the area. One of the hoodlums who appeared as the leader wielded four brand new cutlasses”, he stated.
Though it was not possible as at the time of filing this report to know if there was a link between the incident and the one that happened at the Post-Office area, the mayhem affected newspaper distributors along Emirs road as they could not distribute newspapers early enough for vendors, as well as other traders and motorists.
Spokesman for the police command in the state, Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi confirmed the violence, but denied any report of casualties.
