Tiv community leaders in Nasarawa state have commended governor Umaru Tanko Almakura for donating relief materials to victims of recent attacks in some Tiv communities in the southern parts of the state; especially Obi, Awe and Keana local government councils of the state.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the distribution of materials on Saturday to the affected communities in Lafia, the state capital, the president of Tiv Development Association TIDA in Nasarawa state Mr. Boniface Ifer said that the gesture done to Tiv people in Nasarawa state who lost their loved ones because of the herdsmen attacks would go a long way help to reduce their sufferings.
According to him “I want to state here sincerely that we appreciate Almakura for the prompt intervention of the relief materials to help our people in order to curtail the hardship being faced”.
Boniface further assured that the relief materials were shared equally to all the internally Displaced Persons IDPS in all the camps.
“All the Tiv IDPS camps in the five (5) local government areas affected will benefits from the gesture”. Boniface added.
He continued “Items distributed were foodstuffs such as Bags of rice, Maize, Beans and Mellon. Others are mattresses, bags of salt, Cartons of Idomie, Sugar, Lipton and bathing soaps”.
The Nasarawa state Tiv president Mr. Boniface Ifer further implored Tiv communities to remain calm as according to him “government of Almakura is doing everything possible to restore normalcy in all the affected communities in the state by providing adequate security to protect them as well as avert further occurrence.
