From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi
Tiv umbrella body Mdzough U Tiv, MUT, has expressed sadness over the lingering conflict between the Tivs and Jukuns in Taraba state, describing it as a disgrace and shame to the two (2) ethnic groups that have enjoyed long standing relationship.
President General, MUT Chief Edward Ujege and Secretary General, Boniface Ukende, in a statement in Makurdi yesterday made valuable to Peoplesdaily, regretted that “the conflict which started months back in Abinsi, Guma Local Government, LGA, to Ukum LGA all of Benue State has extended into Taraba State.
“This conflict is unnecessary, uncalled for and a disgrace to the longstanding cordial relationship between the two ethnic groups who have lived peacefully together in the past as brothers and sisters.
“These conflicts are enemies of the progress which our people clearly need in this hour of numerous external challenges in Nigeria.
“MUT hereby calls on all parties to immediately cease hostility and embrace peace. Furthermore we call on the traditional rulers on both divide to wade into the crises and direct their subjects to maintain peace so that our people can resume their normal farming now that the rains have resumed.”
