A Chief Magistrate Court in Damaturu, Yobe state capital, has convicted and sentenced a 23 years old teacher, Sale Abdullahi of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Ngelzarma to 15 years imprisonment for the offence of rape.
The state Senior Council, U.N. Lukeman ESQ, told the court that the convict committed the offence on the 23rd of December, 2016, when he called the 16 years old victim, Hajara Abdullahi to the chemistry laboratory to deliver a message to her from her mother.
He told the court that in the process, he griped the girl and forcefully has illicit sexual intercourse with her against her will.
The 5th witness, Dr. Babagana kolo, who examined the girl at Maryam Abatcha maternal and child health care, Damaturu, told the court in his evidence that he found the victim Hajara abdullahi with ruptured hymen and some bruises and tears in her posterior virginal wall, hence evidence that the victim was sexually assaulted.
Satisfied that the evidences before him from witness has proved that the prosecution has proved the charge against the accused person beyond reasonable doubt, the presiding Chief magistrate, Abubakar Lamba Maluri, sentenced the accused person to 15 years imprisonment.
The judge also awarded a compensation of N150,000 against the convict, in favour of the victim, Hajara Abdullahi, for the physical, psychological and mental anguish she went through as a result of the conduct of the convict and in default of the payment of the compensation to serve additional 5 years imprisonment.
Meanwhile, the court has ordered immediate re-instatement of raped girl, Hajara Abdullahi to continue her studies without any cost and that the order be served on the principal of G.G.S.S Ngelzarma for her immediate compliance.
The court further ordered that the principal shall inform the registry of the court within 14 days of the service of the court order, of her compliance with it.
